CHRISTMAS 2008

Last year I didn't get a chance to share our Christmas decorations. Here is a peek at some of what I did last year.

Our old house was very small and with 3 little ones I decided to put my tree up to discourage little fingers and for my own sanity... This worked out great! My tree is actually a 6 1/2 feet. I removed the bottom portion of the tree and placed a wedge into the stand to make it fit tight. I am not a huge fan of traditional tree skirts so I used a very inexpensive snow blanket tucked around the bottom. Instead of gifts under the tree this also allowed me to tuck some of my favorite decorations under and around. I really liked how it turned out, I may do this again.

Here is Christmas morning and Santa was able to drop everything right there and the stockings were hung from the cabinet.

One of my favorite Santa's by Penny McAllister for Seasons of Cannon Falls. The kids LOVE him! If you like him too, he is available here.

This was one of my favorite things last year.
It is 2 mercury glass compotes, and a large candle ring. The ring wasn't quite big enough to fit around the bottom of the top piece so I simply cut it. I hesitated to do it but thought why not, it can always be wired back together. I then sprinkled everything with fake snow and scattered the ornaments.

My feather tree decorated for Christmas. The picture did not do it justice!

A simple kissing ball tucked into a very plain chandelier. When the lights were on it just sparkled!

My favorite rabbit that I just couldn't put away. All he needed was a little bit of Christmas.

I had very skinny shelves next to my front door and always had trouble decorating them. Last year I kept everything silver and green and created scenes on each shelf with the same snowflake on each to bring them all together.

You can see all of the shelves in the Christmas morning pic.

I hung a small wreath with a bell at the end of each curtain rod.

A favorite Teena Flanner santa standing in a milk glass compote filled with snow and bottlebrush trees.

I hope you found a little inspiration. Have you started decorating yet? I am getting a game plan together. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED!!!

Best wishes,
Tammy

TRICK OR TREAT!

The kids had a great Halloween, here they are all dressed up and ready to go!

Logan as "Chillsy"
(His little bear "Chillsy" is tucked into his costume)

Emma as a butterfly
Notice her shoes...yes, they are stacking
rings. She wears them as "shoes"...

Kate as a kitty cat. She DID NOT
want to wear her costume at the last
minute!!! This was the best pic I could
get. The costume was very plain so I
added the collar and the sash.
When we got home she wouldn't take it off!

Here they are with their friends watching
trick-or-treaters coming up to the house.

I just thought this was cute!

Emma and her best friend "Hop Hop"
This is the best shot I got of her bunny,
who was also dressed like a butterfly...

Trick-or-Treat!

Our house when we got back.

I hope you had a great Halloween and that it was as magical for you as it was for us!

Best wishes,
Tammy

THE LAST OF HALLOWEEN...

The last of the Halloween decorations...

I just liked how this pic turned out!

Dining room table. I love decorating with
cloche's but they never photograph well!

The chandelier was SO MUCH Fun
to decorate. I added the paper pumpkins
and paper fringe around the candles for
our party.

This is a Bethany Lowe Boo Garland I have had
for a couple of years and have never known exactly
where it should hang. It was on the table and I thought
it might work here. I LOVE IT!!!

I just love my chandelier...

Our appetizer table (I didn't get a pic
with the food...) The pumpkin held a dip
and Bob the Pumpkin Man held a vegetable
dip. I love using decorative things for serving
food. The only hard part is finding the right
size container to fit into each piece...

A happy accident! I had been randomly
hanging odds and ends on the coat rack.

Right inside the front door.

I can't wait to re-do our stair case...

The morning after and the party is over...

THIRD POST TODAY - MY HALLOWEEN FEATHER TREE

I use the same white feather tree for everyday. I love the size and I like how it works for Halloween. The owl topper and bat garland are from Martha Stewart Crafts at Michaels.

For every holdiay I try to embellish the stand a bit. Here I used cooregated border (like the teachers use on their bulletin boards, I just cut off the scallops) and created a crepe paper rossette. I love how it sparkles against my mercury glass cake stand.

Back to work...
Best wishes,
Tammy

SECOND POST TODAY - PUMPKIN BASKET TUTORIAL

PUMPKIN TREAT BASKETS

You will need:
- Plastic trick or treat buckets
- Orange & black crepe paper
- Mod Podge or other favorite white glue that dries clear
- Paper towel core
- Wire for handle
- Black glitter
- Small piece of thin cardboard

Step 1. Remove plastic handle from pumpkin

Step 2. Cut strips of orange crepe paper that cover height of pumpkin plus a little extra to tuck inside and the bottom.

Step 3. Cover pumpkin with glue and gently press crepe strip covering entire pumpkin. Make sure to push the paper into the grooves and face, it may tear but it will be covered. You can do more than one layer. I like Mod Podge because it gives a nice finish.

Step 4. Add your wire handle, it is much easier to do at this stage.

Step 5. If you are good and have the patience to paper mache the inside of your pumpkin, great! I did not. I used a paper towel core covered in black crepe paper and inserted it into the pumpkin giving it a nice finished look. The core may be too wide for your pumpkin, simply cut down the length and overlap if needed.

Step 6. Using a small paint brush fill the indentations of face with glue and sprinkle with black glitter. If you have a glue pen it works great. Be sure your pumpkin is completely dry! A dry q-tip works great for cleaning up excess glitter. I also added a glitter around the opening of the pumpkin and the edge of the paper. After all you can never add enough glitter...

Step7. Cut small circle from the card board the same size as the bottom of the pumpkin. Cover with black crepe and form a ruffle collar around the circle. Adhere to the bottom of your pumpkin and you are done!

Lots of steps but very easy to do and it goes really fast if you are making a bunch at a time. I wrote this very quick if you have any questions let me know.

Have more fun stuff to show you later!
Best wishes,
Tammy

MY NEW FAVORITE THING!

It is the day before Halloween and I have lots to share today. Rather than do one GIGANTIC post I will be adding new things throughout the day. First up my new VERY FAVORITE decoration.

While we were pulling out our outdoor Halloween decorations the other night I found this wooden cat that sits on a pumpkin ball. LOVE IT! I got it a few years ago at Michaels or Joann's on a super after Halloween sale and paid a couple of dollars. It was missing it's stake or something but no big deal, easy fix. Needless to say it sat in the garage for 5 years...

This is also a favorite thing that I got at Target a few years back on clearance. I LOVE it, works great inside and out. I was thinking that I would work it in somewhere for Halloween. Hubby saw the two on the step and had the same thought I did. Wouldn't it be cool if they fit together (yes, we both said/thought "cool"). They didn't but he got the drill and presto-change-o!

5 Years later the best front porch decoration ever!
(At least that is my opinion...)

(Yikes - we need a new doorbell! Funny how you don't notice little things like that...)

Back to work I go, be back later with some more Halloween ideas and show and tell!

Best wishes,
Tammy

LOOKS A BIT LIKE FALL...

We made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch this weekend. A bit disappointing, the pumpkins were rotting, probably due to the HOT weather we have had. Even though it was 87 degrees we dressed a little fall-ish to get in the mood...

Logan just loved this yellow pumpkin!

Emma showing her "favorite" pumpkin
Love the rosettes on their dresses, new at Target
If you have little girls they have some REALLY
cute things right now.

She ran around with it almost the
whole
45 minutes we were there...

Kate liked the small pumpkins.
In her words:"S0 cuuute"

I think Kate rolled this pumpkin 15 feet,
it was SO HEAVY!

Logan had the most fun playing with the hay.
I guess if you have never seen hay before...

An accidental close pic. Logan explaining the pumpkin patch to me. I included it because he looks SO BIG!!! Check out last year by clicking here.

Despite the lack of good pumpkins they had a great time. Their costumes are ready, the party menu is set, the decorations are almost up (I am sure I will tweak them until the doorbell rings...). All I have left to do is prepare the food and straighten the house. I am impressed with myself!

Hope you are having a good week. What are your Halloween plans?

Best wishes,
Tammy

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN...

Costumes for the kids - DONE (almost)

Photo from One Step Ahead

Kate (not pictured) wants to be a kitty cat. I am not a big fan to store bought costumes but this I couldn't resist! Yes, another black cat... It needs a little something, I can't leave well enough alone... It arrived today and it is ADORABLE!

Photo from Pottery Barn Kids

Logan wants to be "Chillsy". Chillsy is his tiny little Beanie Baby Bear and looks just like the Pottery Barn Kids costume. When he saw it he was thrilled. Honestly this wasn't my first choice for him but the costumes for toddler boys stink and this is probably the last time he will want a "cute" costume. It's on sale so we will check it out this weekend, if not he will be a "friendly, not scary ghost" (his words). I think he makes a great ghost, but Chillsy is cute too.

Emma, who when asked in September "What do you want to be for Halloween?" replied "a butterfly". She has stuck with it ever since and I found the cutest butterly/fairy costume on eBay.

How cute is this?! If you have little girls or know any little girls be sure to check out lilofthisand that on eBay for the cutest Fairy costumes, heabands, clips, and coming soon pettiskirts! Her prices are fair and her feedback is fantastic. Perfect for dress up and Halloween! I found black and white stripe leggings at Target and a black t-shirt for the top. This will be the first time that the girls have not had matching outfits, we will see how it goes over when they see each other...if one has to change because they are dirty the other does too...oh the joy of twin girls...

We have a busy weekend planned. Pumpkin patch tomorrow, decorate the outside of the house for Halloween, go to the mall to check out Logan's costume, and have everything in order for next weekends Halloween Party. If we succeed it will be the first time EVER that I am ready for an event ahead of time. For example, the night before my wedding I got an idea for elaborate programs and spent the night at the hotel binding books...

Have a great weekend!

Best wishes,
Tammy

grandinroad HALLOWEEN CAT

It was mentioned before how much I LOVE black cats for Halloween. grandinroad has the best cat ever! The head moves from side to side and there are lights inside.

Photo from grandinroad

I am not a fan of inflatable yard decorations but when I saw this I just had to have it. She arrived yesterday and the kids had a blast! Emma and Kate just couldn't get enough and Logan wouldn't go near the cat...

The girls are feeding the cat...

Have a great Thursday!

Best wishes,
Tammy

FALL DECORATING - PART ONE

After a busy weekend and some procrastinating on my part I have finally gotten around to showing off some of my Halloween decorating. Before I start my show and tell be sure to check out OVER THE TOP STUDIOS for a giveaway and to see her amazing Halloween creations. You will not be disappointed!

Let the show and tell begin...

The main focal point is this wire shelf in my dining room.
It is not my favorite piece but I do LOVE it for Halloween.
With 3 little ones running around I found that grouping everything
together in the dining room was the best way to keep my sanity and
not spend the day saying "DON'T TOUCH"!

I have said it before I LOVE this guy. I used a big birch bark candle as a riser.

I just like this angle so I had to show it...

A couple of pieces by Greg Guedel - so festive!
The black cat in the back is by Dan DiPaolo. I love
his grin. He looks like Chandler from "Friends" the
episode where he and Monica take their engagement
pictures. Hubby is the one who noticed that so we
affectionately call him "Chandler"

Wendy Addison Black Cat Moon

I bought this rattle a couple years ago and it never seemed
to work anywhere but I think I like it wired to the shelf.

I am a sucker for a cute black cat!

Probably my favorite cat, a Christopher Radko ornament.
Too big for my feather tree so I wired her to the shelf.

Not sure how I feel about the mask, but I do love
my candleabra!

TIP: Cheap frames from Walmart a couple years ago.
I painted them black, sanded the edges and covered the inside
with glitter. The pictures were cards from HomeGoods that I plan
to accent with glitter...sometime..

Fun project I made using those plastic treat pumpkins,
crepe paper and glitter. Maybe I will do a tutorial if I have time
before Halloween. Very easy to do!

Pumpkins and leaves above the doors that lead to the pool.

Halloween pillows on my bench. I need more pillows!

Not the best picure, I hope to get a better one.
A black crow is perched in my leaf covered chandelier.

I just love Bethany Lowe's postcard inspired
figures. Here they are grouped together on a
mercury glass cake stand with Halloween bottlebrush trees.

I started decorating August 1st and I still am not quite finished. With the kids, the opening of the store and my just not knowing where to put things in my new house it has taken forever. Right now I am over it and ready for Christmas... But as Halloween approaches and the weather is finally starting to cool down I am getting in the mood again.

Have a great week!

Best wishes,
Tammy

NEW THANKSGIVING & HARVEST ITEMS!

Thansgiving & Harvest items have finally been added to the shop! Hubby hasn't quite handed the website over to me yet... It's like his baby!

ACORN BEAD GARLAND WITH
GLITTER ACORN & OAK LEAF
Turkey, Squirrel, & Maple Leaf Glitter Ornaments
are also available.

THANKSGIVING JOYS PILGRIM COUPLE

THANKSGIVING JOYS TURKEY
He is the cutest turkey I have ever seen!

GIVE THANKS GARLAND
The picture does not do this justice!
Perfect draped on your china cabinet or mantle.

THANKSGIVING PINS

These are so much fun! Great hostess gift or favor
for your Thanksgiving guests. Pin to a napkin, create an ornament
(I did that with the Patriotic pins for my Americana feather tree).
Looks great on a jean jacket!

There are more items to be added to the shop weekly so be sure to check back often!

On another note. Thanks for all of the feedback from my last post. I am now a bit more confused. I was leaning towards C because I can use the mirrors on another wall in that room but A was the clear winner. I won't be doing this wall until the weekend so if you haven't put your two cents in I am open to your opinion!

Have a great Wednesday!

I NEED YOUR HELP!

I can't stand it any longer and I have to do something with the room that will some day become our office.

This was the former owners dining room (which explains the light that just HAS to go). It has become a catch-all room and I am going to attempt to make it into a sitting room for the holidays and a place for my formal tree. My only kid-free zone! The first project is the big wall. I can't wait to paint but we are enclosing the room and I just don't have the time to do it right now.

Here is my dilema. I can't decide which arrangement I like the best.

A.

B.

C.

D.

I would love your comments and suggestions. Let me know if you like A, B, C or D or think I should scrap it all and start over...

Tammy

NO NAP TODAY & A PROJECT

This weekend while the little ones ate their breakfast (frozen waffles) I was inspired to make a cute little witch hat for a rabbit I am going to put above my kitchen cabinets along with my Nicol Sayre Halloween pieces. I had an empty waffle box, black crepe paper, mod podge, and black glitter lying around my kitchen, don't we all have those things in the kitchen... Ta da instant Halloween. I will show pics of my decorated cabinets as soon as I can get hubby to move the ladder, 12 foot ceilings are great in theory but not very practical!

AHHH! The girls are refusing to take a nap today, calgon take me away.....

UPDATE: I gave in at 4:00 and let the girls out of their room it is now 4:25 and I just found them...

PROPER THANK YOU & NEW ITEMS!

What a nice surprise when I got up this morning and saw that the fantastic Andrea over at FADED PLAINS mentioned me in her blog this morning! I am truly honored that she thought her readers might like my shop. Be sure to check out all of the wonderful treasures she has in her shop and blog, if you love the vintage farmhouse style than you will love FADED PLAINS!

While unpacking my fall decorations I came across 2 great retired pieces from Bethany Lowe Designs. About six years ago I was working in an adorable little shop where I also rented space to sell my own goods and fell in LOVE with Bethany Lowe Designs. That fall I ordered some pieces to sell and I happened to find 2 pieces that I never put out! You can find them in my eBay store.

First is PUMPKINHEAD WITH PARTY HAT by Dee Foust. He has long been one of my favorite pieces!

Second is BOY IN DEVIL COSTUME. So cute! I just love his sweet face and his pumpkin wagon.

Don't forget there is still time to take advantage of the FREE SHIPPING offer on any order placed before Sept. 15th. Before you pay for your item email me telling me that you have read my blog and I will adjust your invoice. Offer is only for shipping within the US for Alaska, Hawaii and international orders I will be happy to offer a discounted rate.

I hope you are having a great week, Wednesday already, I LOVE holiday weeks!

Best wishes,
Tammy

Thanks again, Andrea!

THANK YOU!

PROBLEM SOLVED! With a little detective work I discovered that when I updated my settings last week I selected to use the UPDATED EDITOR. It worked fine over the weekend but now it is not allowing me to select the COMPOSE tab when using the Post Editor. I went back and selected OLD EDITOR and everything is back to normal...

What a surprise this morning when I saw that Andrea over at FADED PLAINS http://www.fadedplains.blogspot.com/ featured my store on her blog! Thank you!

I had a post for today with photos and links but for some reason I am unable to do anything this morning except type. Has anyone experienced this? How frustrating!

Hope you are all having a great week!

Best wishes,
Tammy

IT'S BEEN TOO LONG!

Hi again, apologies for the abscense. I usually spend the little ones naptime catching up on my blog reading and writing but since a few weeks ago all 3 have simulateously decided they no longer need naps my blog time has been little if non-existant!

Logan (3) has been fighting nap time for weeks but I could usually talk him into quiet playtime in his room that might result in a much needed nap.

Emma and Kate (not quite 2 1/2) have now decided that climbing in and out of their cribs is much more exciting than nap time. Less than 2 weeks ago my sweet little girls would finish lunch gather up their babies and ask to go ni-night. Needless to say since my 2-3 hour break each day has come and gone, the house is a mess, paperwork has been neglected, and my patience is running thin...

We are getting back on track now so I hope to be back to regular posts and with all of the holidays coming up there is LOTS to share!

My sweet hubby gave me some time off the other weekend to decompress and re-charge so I decided to break out the sewing machine and work on my bench I orderd a couple years ago from QVC (one of many late nights up with a baby).

Love it! Originally meant for my entrance remodel it now sits in my dining room as the entrance hall in the new house is more open and there isn't a wall long enough for the bench.

Ruffles have become a bit of an obsession of mine, I just can't seem to get enough. Just a few years ago I wouldn't be caught wearing, buying, or putting a ruffle on anything!

I am pretty pleased with the results since this is probably only my second big sewing project outside of home ec class. It doesn't show that well on the pic but the bench is curved in the front and I matched the curve perfectly, if I do say so myself! There are still a few things to finish including stuffing the seat a bit more (I ran out of stuffing) and a good pressing but if I waited to show it off I would never get to it...
Hope you have a great week, be sure to check back in a couple of days for a GET READY FOR FALL GIVE AWAY!

Tammy

HALLOWEEN TIME!

DON'T MISS OUT! OUR SUMMER SALE IS STILL GOING ON!

Every year at this time I am at a loss. I take down some of my 4th of July decorations and can't wait to decorate for fall...the stores are filling up with back to school clothes and some are even begining to display fall and halloween decorations. I can hardly wait for September 1st, my official it is time to decorate for fall day!!! Yesterday I added more Halloween items to the store, some even on sale. Yes it is early but why not treat yourself so when September 1st rolls around you can get started on your own decorating!

Here is a sneak peek at a couple of my favorites.

I just adore this large Treat Cone by Dee Foust (to be honest I just LOVE cones...)

Vintage inspired candleholders, the images are wonderful!

One of Nicol Sayre's sweetest Halloween pieces "Black Cat Ride"
Sadly, Nicol Sayre is no longer creating pieces for Seasons of Cannon Falls so there are no new pieces for 2009.

He is my VERY favorite Halloween piece, a wonderful reproduction!
Be sure to visit my my eBay store for lots of other great pieces for Halloween, I am continuing to add pieces daily so be sure to check back often. This week I brought back some wonderful Spring pieces at discounted prices, more Halloween, new sale prices on select Americana pieces, and later this week look for some additonal pieces for Christmas.
Best wishes,
Tammy

4th OF JULY PARTY - FINALLY...

DON'T FORGET THE SUMMER SALE IS STILL GOING ON!
Where has this week gone? I promised pics of our 4th of July so here they are, better late than never... I finally found my camera charger so I have lots of pics to share!

Hall table welcomed guests

Appetizers in the dining room

Tables - we also brought in a kids table that we set in the hall between the two rooms it couldn't have worked out any better. I can't believe we fit 18 people for dinner! (Ignore the yucky peach walls they will change in time, right now with the aqua in the dining room it looks like Miami Vice!)

Centerpieces

We had SO much food! I missed a pic of the meat and dessert - bummer. It was GOOD!

My new mirror from Homegoods that hangs in the family room

My feather tree, I think it turned out great this year!

I have said it before I LOVE this guy. (There is still one available and he is on sale!)

LOVING these mini lanterns

I had this STAR ornament everywhere this year. Love the size and the glitter!

I hope to write more next week, things are getting back to normal. New items and markdowns coming next week!

Have a great weekend!

Best wishes,
Tammy

HAPPY 4th!

Hi everyone, hope you had a great 4th of July! We had a great party on Saturday (I will post the pics later this week) and spent Sunday with visiting friends and a trip to IKEA (always fun).

A reminder that there are some great sales going on in the eBay store all month long. Thanks to everyone that has placed orders last week, it has been fun and hectic, which explains my lack of posts last week!
Pictured above is the sweet as can be Glory be Good Mouse ornament by Jennifer Murphy for Seasons of Cannon Falls, was $12.50 now $8.75. FYI - Select Americana Pieces by Dee Foust and Bethany Lowe were added to the sale this morning.

Back to work I go...
Best wishes,
Tammy
